The prospects of banking IT in Belarus

On 29–31 May an annual seminar for IT department heads of banks “Prospects and development directions of bank information technologies in 2017” was held in the Training Centre of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus. Forbis Company has traditionally been one of the sponsors of this event.

During the seminar the participants discussed the most relevant issues of information technology development in banking. In the modern world, technologies and tendencies are changing so fast that it is necessary to constantly follow the trend or otherwise one may hopelessly fall behind and lose their business. The financial sector has always been and remains the driving force of technological development; therefore, it is extremely important to choose the right strategy and objectives of this sector. In its presentation Forbis Company, which is the leader of bank systems in the Baltic States, has shared its vision on the main trends in the field of banking solutions in the European Union and innovative products and projects, which the company is implementing together with its European customers.

The Belarusian banking community paid great attention to Forbis approach and work experience in the field of cloud service provision and the company’s innovations, designated for the development and support of FinTech banking.

The seminar ended with a discussion “The transition of banks to cloud infrastructure and services”. The participants discussed obstacles that hinder the active transition to cloud and agreed that cloud operators together with banking community and providers of IT solutions must consolidate their efforts and take joint actions to resolve determined issues. It has also been suggested establishing a banking industry standard for the use of cloud services or supplementing a part on transition to the cloud of the already existing standard ТКП 477-2013 “Banking activities. Information technologies. Processes to ensure continuous operation and restore the efficiency of the payment system participant. General requirements”. The participants have stressed the necessity to create a steering group, which could develop proposals on the amendments to the standard. Sergey Leshkevich, a representative of Forbis for CIS countries, will represent our company in this group.

The seminar was organized by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the Scientific and Technological Association “Infopark”.
